9/17/2012 – Monday of 24th week in ordinary time – 1 Corinthians 11:17-26, 33

Paul wrote to the Corinthians to give them advice, to try to help them on their journey as individual believers and as a community of faith.  Today, we hear Paul address the Eucharistic celebration that the community has together.  He hears that it is a celebration that divides the community, a celebration in which some go hungry and in which the rich have a scrumptious banquet.  Paul tells them that they are to emulate the values that Christ taught them as they break bread together and as they drink from the common cup, just like the meal that Jesus shared with his first apostles the night before his death and resurrection.
We see so many division in our world today as well, division that seem to becoming deeper in our society.  We need leaders who are healers and who can bring people together, not leaders who divide and create divisions and chaos.  When we walk out of our Eucharistic celebration, we are to try to live the values of the Gospel in our daily lives.  What are we doing to bring the peace of Christ to our brothers and sisters?
