Meeting St Roche along the Camino

After leaving the village of Fromista, we took a wrong turn and lost over an hour of time before we made it back to the starting point. I was so frustrated with myself. However, it ended up being one of our best days. Claudia Addison reminded me of the saying "everything belongs" from one of Father Richard Rohr's books. Sometimes getting lost is what we learn from - it belongs as an integral part of our journey of faith. This is a statue of St Roche that a man carved in his almond grove. Our friends who started out early in the morning that day and did not get lost did not get the opportunity to see this. What a treat it was. I love St Roche and his story of how the little dog brought him bread each day when he was exiled in the forest when he had the plague.
